Danogen 200 mg

What is Danogen 200 mg ?
Danogen 200 mg is used to treat endometriosis (development of uterine-lining tissue outside the uterus, symptoms of which include abdominal pain, heavy periods, and infertility) and non-cancerous (benign) fibrocystic breast disease in adult patients not responding to other treatments. It is also used to prevent attacks of angioedema (swelling of eyes and lips) in patients with hereditary angioedema disorder.
Danogen is prescribed to treat endometriosis, a condition in which the tissue that normally lines the womb grows on the other organs outside the womb. The active ingredient danazol is a gonadotrophin inhibitor type of medication as well as a synthetic steroid that works by affecting the ovaries and pituitary gland and prevents the release of certain hormones in the body. Some people may also use the drug to treat nodules (lumps), tenderness and severe breast pain associated with fibrocystic breast disease as well as hereditary angioedema.
How is Danogen-200 used?
Danogen is usually taken orally 2 times daily or as directed by a doctor. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken the same way each time. Contact a doctor for the correct length of treatment and dosage as it will depend on the patients condition and their response to the therapy. The capsules should be taken whole and not crushed, split or broken to prevent too much of the drug from being released at one time.
How to take danazol
  • Before you start the treatment, read the manufacturer's printed information leaflet from inside the pack. It will give you more information about danazol, and will also provide you with a full list of side-effects which you could experience from taking it.
  • You should start taking danazol on the first day of your next period unless you have been told otherwise.
  • Your doctor will tell you how many capsules to take each day, and when you should take them. As a guide, for the treatment of endometriosis or breast pain, danazol is usually taken 2-4 times daily for 3-6 months. Take the capsules exactly as your doctor tells you to. Your dose will be printed on the label of the pack to remind you about what the doctor said to you.
  • Swallow the capsules whole with a drink of water - do not chew or open them before you swallow.
  • You can take danazol capsules either before or after meals, but try to take your doses at the same times each day, as this will help you to remember to take them regularly.
  • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember (unless it is nearly time for your next dose, in which case leave out the missed dose). Do not take two doses together to make up for a forgotten dose.
When is Danogen (200 mg) not to be taken? (Contraindications)
Contraindicated in patients with undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, liver, kidney impairment, during pregnancy, breast-feeding and hypersensitivity.
